The South Sea pearls are cultured and white in color with silver or rose undertones. They are big sized pearls ranging from 11 ¨C 13mm. Tahitian pearls are black colored pearls usually. The pearls have green or pink undertones. They are cultured and have high luster. These huge pearls come in sizes of 11 ¨C 12mm.
Many things should be considered before buying a pearl necklace. The first and foremost is the type of pearl. Once this decision is made then the size has to be decided upon. The pearl and the size choice are personal preferences and have to be done accordingly. There are many popular types of necklaces available in the market. These necklaces have standard lengths. The different types include Choker which is usually 14 ¨C 16 inches in length. This type would be ideal for formal and business occasions. The choker would look lovely on a long neck. The choker necklace is worn close to the neck.
The Princess style is longer and is usually around 17 ¨C 20 inches in length. This length is very comfortable and can be used with dresses for all occasions be it formal, business or just casual. The princess necklace would add the right amount of class to your attire. The next style to comprehend is the Matinee which comes in lengths of 20 ¨C 24 inches. This style very much portrays the business and corporate culture. Hence it is ideal for work and sometimes can be worn for working lunches and company hangouts.
The very formal Opera is long and should be worn in wrapped around your neck with the longer end hanging from the neck and the shorter wrapped tight like a choker. The opera necklace comes in lengths of 28 to 34 inches and is perfect for formal evenings and parties. The Rope is a pearl necklace that is 45+ inches long. This can be worn in layers around your neck and would glamorize any attire. The necklace is ideal for those special parties and evenings where you have to make an impression.

What type of necklace with what type of neckline?
I'm always unsure about which necklace to wear with a turtleneck, v-neck, scoop neck, rounded neck, and shirt with collar. Advice?
Ok,my opinion: It depends what you want to draw attention to, your face (medium length), your neck(if it's slim long and graceful like a ballerina wear a choker) or your chest(longer style like 20s or 60s retro which is better if your bust is small).
Turtleneck: no necklace or long. Turtlenecks are better if you have a smaller chest as are long necklaces
V-Neck: Medium length necklace pendant on a slim chain so it follows the V shape. This is the best combination for busty or plus size ladies.
Scoop neck: No necklace or a choker. This is best if you have a shim, long graceful neck to show off.
Rounded neck: A medium length necklace that is thicker than a chain (like pearls or beads) so it follows the neckline shape. Best if you do not have a round face.
For an office attire collared shirt chose a choker on a delicate chain if you have a slim neck. If the shirt is unbuttoned at the top same necklace as v neck.
